There’s a place off W. Point Avenue

Where I went to sit and fish with you
We were off of work, and the time felt right
Working all day, catching fish all night!
Okay, done playing with Yellowcard’s song.  Doesn’t really fit either, but its stuck in my head right now!  If you haven’t guessed it yet, this is going to be a Half Moon Bay jetty fishing report (W Point Ave. is a street near the jetty).  We went out to Pillar Point Harbor at night the last two weeks (once a week) to poke pole the jetties after work.  Unwind a little, catch a few fish, hang out with friends, you know.  Well, it turned out to just be Patrick & me in the end, but that’s fine!  More fish for us! 😀

Both days we went out, we didn’t hit the jetties until after 8:30pm.  Truly night fishng d=  We started off with squid on a carolina rig (1/2 oz – 1oz sliding egg sinkers above a 4/0 octopus hook snelled directly onto the main line).  First time I got nothing but snags.  Patrick did amazing though!

We released it since neither of us wanted to deal with cleaning one.  After he just kept following it up with fish!

And then he scored a pig of a grassy rock cod!

First catfish ever!

I really need to start getting into surf fishing.  Supposed to figure that stuff out so I can take my dad out to do it.  Getting on topic though.  Read on Wednesday that they just stocked Lafayette Reservoir that day (10/24) and decided I needed seconds on bacon wrapped trout.  Been watching some videos (most by DJ Jeremy Bass Fishing) and reading a lot of freshwater bass fishing things saying wacky rigged senko worms are the way to go, wanted to give it a try since I read Lafayette rented kayaks, and bass should be hiding all the tules along the shoreline.

Grabbed some 4″ watermelon gary yamamoto senko worms, and some 5″ berkley scented sinking minnows (look about the same) since I’ve had a lot of luck with their scented lures (more specifically the minnows) at the sports authority in Foster City.  Also got some chicken livers (1lb for $1) at marina foods.  Figured I should drop on pole in as bait, may as well be catfish since I hadn’t even caught one.

Lafayette Reservoir, First time! 10-23-2012

Not sure what wordpress did with the old button to add images hosted on other sites, working on figuring it out.  Just wanted to push this post out before I forgot details :]

Edit: apparently I have to push the post, go to the post and click edit to get back to the old format of editor…laaaaaame

Went in for the second part of my root canal today.  Didn’t sleep last night, I think I actually fell asleep during the root canal… >.<  Was raining on and off until I got back to redwood city.  Sun came out around 3 and I felt like fishing so I looked up a few places.  Was contemplating something in livermore, but the lake looked HUGE.  I try to avoid the really large ones since I don’t have a boat to take out on them.

Anyhow, wound up choosing to try out Lafayette Reservoir.  Got a little confused when I first got there.  The road up is a really narrow one way street and you have to go over this one really sketchy bump thing…Its not bad once you’ve been through once, but your first time you’re just going to be thinking “What the holy hell have I gotten myself into…”

The parking is kind of confusing too.  Right as you reach the top of the the hill there’s a gate that says “Annual Pass Only”, we didn’t even bother trying to go through there.  Have no idea how it works.  There’s a cleaning station and bathroom just to the right of that gate though.  The cleaning station looks really nice, seems to be well kept.  I didn’t use it since I didn’t know about it until we were packed and leaving.

So you know what I’m talking about :]  Click for the full size image

Farallon Islands on board the Tigerfish

As promised, here’s the report for our ocean trip 23 miles off the San Francisco coast to the Farallon Islands, legendary place for rock cod fishing.  Or so I’ve been told.  This trip came right after we got home from vacation, was a bit rough.  It was my brother, my mom, Kara and her husband Josh, and me.  Have you met my brother?
